3 Research Assistants join for the food charities project

We are excited to welcome 3 Research Assistants, Benedetta, Misaki and Elke to the food charities project!
They are already working on the coding task for each country, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands for the Event Sequence Analysis, to analyse how charitable food providers obtain the necessary resources that enable them to fulfil their food support mission. Please see below for a detailed introduction of each research assistant.
Benedetta Zampelli is a second year European Law student at Maastricht University. Originally from Rome, Italy, she spent a semester abroad in Winnipeg, Canada, broadening her academic and cultural perspectives. Her research interests lie in food charities, food insecurity, and the relationship between social justice and European legal frameworks. Within the project, she contributes to the Italian part of the project, focusing on the analysis of articles concerning food charity systems. Her work supports a broader understanding of how different Italian contexts address food insecurity and the roles played by institutions and civil society in these processes.
Misaki Miyake is a third-year student at UCM, focusing on cognitive and computational neuroscience. Although her academic focus differs from this project, she has developed interdisciplinary curiosity through diverse experiences, including an internship in social innovation and active involvement in her study association Universalis. Her interests also extend to understanding how social and environmental factors shape human cognition. Motivated by a strong interest in food insecurity and experience in qualitative research, she helps with coding Japanese articles for this project.
Elke Gijsen is a graduate in Health Sciences (specialization: Digital Health and Technology) and holds a master’s degree in Governance and Leadership in European Public Health. She is currently pursuing a dual degree in Public Policy and Human Development at the United Nations University and Maastricht University School of Business and Economics. Her research interests include public, digital, and global health, with a focus on evidence-based policy development.
